WMPA region celebrates its successes in 2011 Over 60's There were 15 teams in this year's Over 60's competition, which was held on Tuesday may 10th. The winners were Barry and Dianne Scott, with Alex and John second, Reg and Sheila third. John and Barbara from Hinckley took 4th. spot. Barry and Dianne were founder members of Coventry PC in 1980 but moved to Devon and have been put of the region for many years. Now living in Kenilworth they have joined Stockton Half Crown, along with their daughter Claire White. From Left Tony Thompson (Coventry) with Barry Scott and Dianne Scott  (Half Crown) The Open Pairs and President's Cup round 4 The new lawn was introduced to visitors and used for the first time at the Open Pairs competition and with the hot sunshine, which the day was blessed with, the shade under the trees was appreciated by all during spells off the piste. There were 17 pairs for the competition, which unfortunately meant that there was a fair amount of waiting around for some teams during the day. Sorry if this affected you but it was unavoidable with an odd number of teams. I was pleased to see teams from across the West Midlands, East Midlands and Cheshire but disappointed that there was no one from Hereford area. A random draw was made using a circle format and each team was provided with a score card showing their opposition for the day and they were asked to play in the order on their, card in an effort to minimise waiting time, not entirely successful but probably better than playing the teams as they became available, as towards the end of the day that could have lead to even longer waits. Play was quite intense and games between Nouri & Keith and Neil & Jeff, Tony & Betty and Nigel & JJ, Tony & Eileen and Barbara & John E. and Janet & Ian and Rosaleen &John, Alex & John B. and Nigel & JJ all went the full distance of 13-12.           Winners:Nouri Beladaci and Keith Turner  At the opposite end of the scale there were four fannies but I will save the blushes of the losing teams, suffice to say that they were inflicted by Carol & Chris, Nouri & Keith, Dave & Lynn and Barbara and John. Congratulations to the winners, Nouri and Keith, who managed to win all 6 games with a points difference of +40. Second were Dave and Garth, also with 6 wins but a points difference of +26. Third were Tony & Betty with 5 wins and fourth Tony and Eileen Sollis with 4 wins. As all these are EPA members they will each gain points in the President's Cup. Nouri and Keith managed to surprise us all when they chose not to take the winners wine prize but opted for the beer intended for the second placed team. Dave and Garth didn't mind in the slightest and accepted the wine for taking second place. TT. Thank You for Supporting Petanque in South Africa: By David Mason A sincere thank you to all the members of WMPA who bought raffle tickets to support petanque in South Africa.  I have now reached the target £207 which will enable 10 triples to participate in the competition we are organising in November.  The players are from petanque groups from disadvantaged communities in Pniel and Parrl.  Thank you to everyone who bought tickets at Stockton and Stauton-on-Wye.
