West Midlands Cadet Represents England By Brian Stote On Saturday, September 3rd, England Juniors met their Welsh counterparts at Monkstone PC in Cardiff in the second annual international match. Although dubbed a Junior International, one of the England players was still a cadet – eleven- year-old Meri Young from Whitnash Windmill PC, West Midlands. Meri was in a young triple with Harry Waldie from Rayne Swan PC in Eastern Region and Jessica Shoesmith from Wanderers St Faiths PC, near Norwich, in Anglia Region. Playing in fourth spot, the team managed to win four games out of six, only losing to the top two Welsh triples, to contribute to a stunning 19 – 5 victory on Welsh soil. Meri's triple played steadily on a difficult and demanding piste with Harry shooting consistently throughout the day. Jessica and Meri backed each other up with occasionally inspired pointing, covering well if the other had struggled with the unpredictable surface. The England team returned home triumphant, having retained the trophy which Meri and Harry were invited to accept on behalf of the England squad. Well done, Meri!  You did us proud!
